About me

Hello! I’m Tal Walker, a pianist and Young Steinway Artist. I currently teach piano as a Deputy Teacher at the RCMJD (Royal College of Music Junior Department), privately, and also instruct academic classes as a Graduate Teaching Assistant at the Royal College of Music. I have over ten years of experience teaching piano to students of all ages, from five years old to adults. I teach in my home-based piano studio, where some of my students are complete beginners while others are preparing for concerts, recordings, and competitions.

I can prepare students for ABRSM exams, or, if you prefer to play simply for enjoyment, I can teach you your favourite pieces, depending on your goals. Lessons can focus solely on piano repertoire or include scales, exercises, piano technique, music theory, sight reading and applied aural skills. I am committed to creating a safe and inspiring environment to support each student’s musical journey.

I hold an up-to-date Enhanced DBS certificate (valid from 28 November 2024) and follow the safeguarding policies recommended by the Independent Society of Musicians, of which I am a member.

If you are interested in learning more or have any questions, please give me a call or fill in the contact form below. I look forward to working with you and helping you develop your piano playing!

Student testimonials

Here’s what my students and their parents have to say about our lessons together.

ILARIA

I started learning piano as an adult and I was looking for somebody who could guide me on this exciting path, when I found Tal. He’s a very talented pianist and a wonderful piano teacher. He’s very kind, patient and passionate about helping his students to improve their piano playing. I have made a lot of progress under his tutorship and I highly recommend him.

My 12 year old son has been taking lessons from Tal for well over a year and it has been amazing. Patient, kind and very aware of the pupil’s particular strengths and weaknesses have greatly increased Alex’s confidence and skills. When Tal moved to London from Antwerp we decided to continue with him as a teacher using Skype because our son was that comfortable with him as a teacher. Most highly recommended.

I am absolutely thrilled to be studying with Tal and am benefiting immensely from his deep knowledge and expertise. His patient and encouraging teaching style makes every lesson both challenging and rewarding. Each session is a satisfying blend of insightful musical and historical context as well as technical mastery and interpretation. Tal’s teaching has enabled me to tackle more demanding repertoire I would have never considered attempting before. I have grown as a pianist under his guidance over the last few years and I look forward to every lesson – they are thoroughly enjoyable.
