Biography

Tal Walker is a London-based Israeli-Belgian pianist, a Young Steinway Artist, and an Antarctica Records recording artist. Having studied in Paris for five years, he specialises in the French repertoire. He is currently pursuing his doctoral studies at the Royal College of Music in London, where he received the RCM Doctoral Bursary and the RCM Stanislawa Kryszek Award. Tal serves as a Graduate Teaching Assistant at RCM as well as a deputy piano and chamber music teacher at the Royal College of Music Junior Department (RCMJD). In 2025, Tal Walker was the co-recipient of the Music & Letters Award (Oxford University Press) for organising the international conference ‘Piano Music of the 20th Century‘. He has been invited to give lecture-recitals about piano music by Fauré, Debussy and Messiaen in conferences at the Royal Academy of Music (London), the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, Cardiff University’s School of Music, and the Sorbonne Université (Paris).

In 2017, Tal won the bronze medal at the 18th Osaka International Music Competition in Japan. He was invited to prestigious artist residencies, including Villa Lena in Italy (2018 and 2022) and the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity in Canada (2019). At Banff, he was awarded the “Ken and Marie Madsen Endowment Scholarship” to perform and record pieces by Ravel and Debussy. Tal released several recordings, including an EP with the complete Préludes (Livre 1) by Debussy (Antarctica Records, 2025) and his debut album, Fauré, Poulenc, Messiaen: Préludes & Nocturnes (Galaxie-Y Endowment Fund, 2022). The album was praised by International Piano Magazine, Interlude Magazine, France Musique (Radio France), L’Alsace, and Globes Newspaper, among others. His upcoming album Clair-obscur, featuring piano works by Lili Boulanger and Gabriel Fauré, will be released in September 2026 by Antarctica Records.

As a soloist, Tal has performed with orchestras in Belgium, Italy, and Poland, and on international stages such as Salle Cortot in Paris, Steinway Hall, Middle-Temple Hall and Conway Hall in London, as well as Amuz, DeSingel and the Royal Flemish Opera in Belgium. In addition to his solo career, Tal has played in various chamber music ensembles, premiered contemporary pieces, and recorded for the Dutch Radio. He has also participated in numerous international festivals and master classes with renowned artists such as Michel Béroff, Rafał Blechacz, Anne Queffélec, Aquiles Delle Vigne, Jean-Philippe Collard, Bertrand Chamayou and many more.

Tal studied at the École Normale de Musique de Paris – Alfred Cortot with Madame Françoise Thinat, participated three times in the Académie de musique française (directed by Jean-Philippe Collard) and worked closely with renowned pianist Philippe Entremont in Paris and Fontainebleau. Tal graduated from conservatoires in the Netherlands, Belgium and Israel, where he studied with Larisa Banchik, Daniel Gortler, Asaf Zohar, Avi Schönfeld, and Eliane Rodrigues. Tal Walker is the founder and Artistic Director of the Monsieur Croche concert series in Belgium, where he performs a vast repertoire of French music. He is the co-founder and member of the London-based ‘Ortus Piano Trio’ together with violinist Daniel Pukach and cellist Lucy Gijsbers.
