Thirty years separate the composition of Gabriel Fauré’s first Prelude and the last Nocturne of Francis Poulenc. Considering the period, style and developments of each of these three composers, we can enjoy the absolute perfection in the brevity of each of these short works. Furthermore, the most striking feature of these collections lies in their unity, the continuity of their themes, their diversity and the impression that each cycle could stand by itself as a single work, cohesive and complete.“
